In October 2023, as a result of a medical event, I skimmed the centre barrier on the Kapiti Expressway, tearing every panel on the driver's side of my 2007 XJR Jaguar. The vehicle sat in my carport while I stabilised my medical condition and considered the options.
In September 2024, while working away from home, my partner ordered a transporter and sent my Jaguar to The Toy Shop in Te Atatu, Auckland. She was over seeing my head drop as I walked past the carport.
I didn't physically see the Jaguar again until 25 July 2025. I had flown to Auckland to pick up my rebuilt car. On that day, I again saw my beloved Jaguar. The body was perfect, paint to match, all trimming carefully removed, painted and returned, the interior all refurbished, completed in the most minute detail. Then she (the car) was fired up, the crisp sound of the perfectly tuned motor barely hid the draw of the supercharger. Yes, while under repair, less obvious modifications were also undertaken, including brakes, suspension, drive train, both motor and diff, finished off with ECU remapping, all completed at The Toy Shop.
During a walk through The Toy Shop workshop, I saw many projects under construction or refinement, all being worked on by experts in each of their fields. There was a man for every required trade, and it was evident each was hand-picked for the team.
Over the next two days, I drove home. I loved every mile of the journey, responsive motor and handling to match. The acceleration was intoxicating, so much so that I attracted the attention of the red and blues, yes, a bag of tickets for the glove box, but it was worth it. I'll do my penance later.
Thank you, Trevor, Anne and the team from Toy Shop, I live again.
I recommend The Toy Shop.
I recently had repairs to my Jaguar XJR, and I am very pleased with the results. Their excellent professional and friendly service is complemented by the brand new premises in McLeod Road, Te Atatu. I'm a happy customer, thanks team.
PS. I have been a customer with Trevor (Owner) for several years now, and I can categorically state that he is a gentleman of integrity, a forthright 'no frills' kind of guy with a passionate distrust for car salesmen. Definitely see him before buying your next European car, Jaguar or Land Rover. I respect his opinions and trust his advice.
Thank you very much.

I have been very grateful to have enjoyed trusting The Toy Shop and particularly Trevor with my 1978 Suffix D Range Rover, and am delighted that Trevor has given her a new lease of life.
Yes, it cost a bit, but that’s what happens when you own a classic. The biggest concern is finding someone you trust to do what’s required, do it properly and charge a fair price for the skill and experience that is needed to complete the work.
I can’t thank you enough, Trevor. You can fix things and source parts that others aren’t able to. I will be back, probably often, but willingly and with pleasure.
Thanks, John
There’s an old saying, “It’s not what but who you know,” which I personally endorse … but when you find someone “Who Knows What” to do, then you are “Quid’s in” and for me that has been The Toy Shop.
“Long story, short”. I’d been having constant issues with my Porsche 911 Targa Roof for over 3 years, to the point where it was completely nonfunctional. I know this issue is complex. The extended sunroof integrates with the rear window, side windows, and doors for the “security” system; it must all be in sync to operate correctly.
For a number of years, I had been suffering the “B/S” of my local garage, to the point where I sought the Dealer’s recommendation. Who advised the repair to be anything from 15-50K and that there was a risk that once started, it may never be able to be repaired. At this point, I told them to seal the roof up so that it was watertight, and I would drive it like a Coupe (clearly not the right Who).
“First world problem, right”? However, having a car that just wasn’t right… I soon “fell out of love” with it. When my son graduated and returned home from University, I told him to “flog it off”; it just wasn’t “my baby” anymore.
Researching to get a price for a Targa with a broken roof, my son came across a “for sale” for a Targa (very nice car) advertising a full roof restore (10K) by the Toy Shop. My son spoke to The Toy Shop who gave a clear appraisal of the work, risks, and opportunities to restore the car, without being able to commit “sight unseen”, “fair enuff”. We were impressed by the enthusiasm, intellectual property, and process to complete described to us…so my son drove the car from Kapiti to Auckland for a full appraisal.
The very next day, the car had been stripped, and we were given a full appraisal of the parts, labour, and timeframes required to complete the roof… including full online photographic evidence of the work performed, and issues at hand. Very impressive …
The restore went completely to plan, and three weeks later (including two weeks for the parts to arrive from Germany) the roof of my car was fully functioning, better than I had ever known. This included every stage of the journey, fully documented online as it progressed.
My son flew to Auckland and drove the car back. I’m back “in Love” with it... and the car isn’t for sale 😊
Thank you, The Toy Shop, clearly both the “Who” and the “What” of this 3-year journey… now behind us 😊
Kevin from Kapiti.
1983 Land Rover 109, fixed starting and running issues. These guys know what they're doing. I'm coming back for restoration work. Highly recommend.
Trevor at the Toyshop is awesome, two other places couldn't figure out what was wrong with my Maserati, Trevor had it sussed out within an hour of having the car.
Trevor & team have serviced and restored my vintage XJS and more recently fixed a problem others could not sort out with my modern F Type. Highly recommended.
You know it's a good shop with a loyal customer base when it's busy, and The Toy Shop are definitely busy! Trevor and his technicians were great! They looked at my car when they said they would and gave me an honest assessment of the problems, as well as options to fix it and costs involved. Trevor was great at explaining what had gone wrong and put it in terms I could understand. Highly recommended!
Very happy with these guys, great communication and they’re very good at what they do, if you need a trusting company to take care of your vehicle send it to these guys.
Thanks team much appreciated ✅
Couldn’t be better, 100% happy, actually exceeded expectations.
Was shown photos of progress throughout the job.
Job quality was important to me. I have to say it was amazing!
I can confidently recommend The Toy Shop.
Pleased with the service received from The Toy Shop team. Complex issues re Jaguar car computer successfully resolved. These guys know their stuff!
I took my Aston Martin in and these guys know their stuff, great communication and fast turn around.
Thanks, Trevor and team, for great workmanship and thorough vehicle servicing. Nice to know your older vehicle will be properly looked after.
These guys are the best, Trevor, Mike, and Sen....Thank you for all the great work you did on my roof, dash, and generalised noises. Brilliant communication, fair pricing, and expertise second to none. They go the extra mile and seem to be able to do the impossible. Thanks, guys, much appreciated. Love and Respect
5-star rating for great service and a top job done in repairing my car. Really appreciate you fitting me in at late notice. Thanks, guys, I'll be back for sure
Quick and reliable, hugely knowledgeable and I completely trust them with my vehicle
Excellent company to deal with, great service, kept us up to date with our purchase delivery times, they gave us fantastic advice and information regarding our vehicle and the item we purchased, We would recommend them to anybody and will definitely be using them again.
Wonderful service and advice from Trevor, right through the whole team. He has a very knowledgeable team that has offered great advice on a range of issues I have had with my vehicles over the years. The technical skills and customer service are excellent.
Great customer service. Won’t take my Land Rover anywhere else! Took my Disco 3 here earlier this year after it was causing me no end of troubles. Did a full health check on it at my request and replaced EGR. Been running like a dream since (touch wood!!) Highly recommended
Trevor is the bomb
Trevor and the team have been an absolute pleasure to deal with. My BMW 535i GT failed its warrant due to worn front sway bar bushings and rear differential mount/subframe mount bushings. I searched around and Trevor was able to liaise with my Mechanical Breakdown Insurance provider, from diagnosis to claiming to completion of works. To add further, I collected my car after the works were completed and noticed some troubling noises and vibrations coming from the car. Trevor immediately sent out a technician (Tristan, who was knowledgeable and personable) to diagnose the issue and get me back on my way. You WILL NOT get better all-around service in terms of communication, price and quality of work from any other shop. Do yourself a favour and see Trevor at the Toy Shop if your Euro needs some love.
Great team, always diagnoses correctly and does quality work, even if a part that has been replaced fails again under warranty they are still happy to fix. Recommend to anyone with a euro vehicle.
Another perfect service experience from the team at The Toy Shop on my Maserati - great job team!!!
They couldn't have taken better care of my Beetle. She's running so smoothly, the rust is all gone, and she looks gorgeous. Thank you so much!
Great service. Very quick and professional. Nice people are a plus
Trevor, thank you so much for looking after the Jag and getting it purring again. As a new customer of The Toy Shop and someone that is unfamiliar with cars and mechanical terms, your knowledge, your honesty and your mechanical know-how was a breath of fresh air. Your workshop is fantastic (love the steelwork), you explained everything to me so I understood, and your estimate was accurate. You have a great team, and I especially appreciated that you needed to move a vehicle AND bring the Jag down from the hoist, so I could retrieve something from the glovebox. I will be back and I will be recommending The Toy Shop to all of my colleagues and friends.
Dear Reader. Stop looking, and go see Trevor and the TS Team. The End. Really though... their repairs and maintenance service was amazing, and they absolutely know their stuff. We brought in our Disco and he was able to quickly diagnose the issues we were having, and accurately quote. The after-service care they provide is insane. They spent time taking our questions and following up with us to get everything to perfection. AAA - we'll be back for servicing in a couple of months. Thanks
Great communication from the team, describing exactly what they find and how they go about fixing things. My Lancia is now running nice and cool. Thanks, Trevor and team.
Trevor and his team are fantastic. I asked for a quote for some new tyres but instead of quoting me for the ones I already had on the car (as everyone else had - they were pretty expensive tyres), he recommended a different type, that would be way better for my car, as well as being half the price. Amazing service, incredibly honest and thorough. I won't go anywhere else now. Cheers Trevor!
5-star rating for great service and a top job done in repairing my car. Really appreciate you fitting me in at late notice. Thanks, guys, I'll be back for sure.
Quick and reliable, hugely knowledgeable and I completely trust them with my vehicle.
I was looking to have the faulty door lock replaced on my BMW hatch which suddenly stopped functioning for some reason. I searched online for a euro car specialist and found The Toy Shop. I started reading the reviews from other customers which were all positive so I thought I'd give this place a shot. Four days ago, they replaced the door lock like I expected them to but as I was driving home I noticed that the interior is way cleaner than I remembered. When I got home later that day, I found out that not only did they tidy up the interior but they also cleaned the exterior as well. Cobwebs were removed from all over the car, the body now has more shine in it and so do the rims! Talk about going over and beyond for customers. They obviously did not have to do that but they did and I appreciate it very much. I'm totally impressed with the service so thank you The Toy Shop Auckland!
The team at The Toy Shop have been fantastic. The communication during the process was excellent and anything I didn't understand was explained thoroughly. I would highly recommend The Toy Shop team to anyone needing a good honest mechanic who cares about your car as much as you do. Bonus, the courtesy car was immaculate and my (really dirty) car was groomed to perfection when I picked it up.
Awesome service. Did a huge favour for me and didn't ask much in return. Hard to find places like this in this industry
I went to see a mechanic, but instead, I met Trevor a purist and car lover at The Toy Shop. Trevor inspected my Porsche 911SC and told me that many parts, I believed needed to be replaced, were in fact in good order. He meticulously fixed all other faults without overcharging. I suspect that he spent more time on my car than he actually charged, out of pure love for my German piece of engineering. Trevor and his team earned a friend for life. Thank you a million times over.
Great people to deal with! Extremely professional, friendly and have the technical know-how and experience to deal with all European cars! Highly recommend
Very nice and professional workshop that I can happily recommend to anyone who likes his car as much as I do. Always delivered what was promised, without a doubt, one of the best workshops if honesty and great work are what you are after. Go Toy Shop. Regards Richard
Very informative with what was needed to be done on my car and how it is done. Looked like a new car when I picked it up. Also nice being able to see the other cars they work on through Instagram.
Great service from The Toy shop team. 100% recommended!!
Great service from the team at The Toy Shop on my Maserati – your technical skills and customer service are AAA+++
Great team and clean workshop who have been looking after my E39 540i for the past 18months. The 540 recently needed emergency surgery which was dealt with quickly and for a good price, plus it looked great after a clean too. Highly recommended for those who love their toys. Cheers, Clem
The Toy Shop has done it again, great outstanding service and great work carried out on the vehicle. You are given clear explanations on what work is required and any possible options available. If there is an issue that is not easily diagnosed, these guys will spend the time to track the actual fault and not replace something that doesn't need replacing. Always excited about picking my rangie up from the workshop as it always comes out driving and running great. Thank you "The Toy Shop"
Trevor, you and your team are amazing. Great customer service and once again quality work completed. Iv had nothing but great outcomes with your team at the Toy Shop. Thank you. Lincoln
The Toy Shop guys are sharp on their diagnostics and well as repair The key is they know what to expect and look for BEFORE things go wrong - especially with the Rangies due to their experience - their relationship with their suppliers also means they can access parts and service quickly and competitively.
The Toy Shop team have been looking after my 1987 Range Rover Classic. She is a capricious piece of machinery with a solid to-do list, but they provide the expert knowledge that's needed every time. They always keep me informed, no surprises, honest labour charges, and loan car often available. Trevor sources rare parts through internet/facebook sleuthing, and minor tidy-ups have been done at the same time as other work without even asking. Friendly people who are good to talk shop with as well. They love classics and treat both car and owner with respect.
Trevor, Tim and all of the team at The Toy Shop have just given my Range Rover Sport a full service. I'd just like to say thanks for their awesome work, great attention to detail and honest upfront price estimates, these guys clearly love what they do. I'd highly recommend you get your European pride and joy down to them quick smart, and you too can enjoy the same experience. Big thumbs up Toy Shop
I have a Range Rover Vogue 2000, which because of its age requires a particular Diagnostic device and attention. My recent experience with Toy Shop was exemplary, I have used Toy Shop off and on over the past 7 or so years and without exception have always received excellent service and outcomes. It’s a credit to Trevor and his team. Chris Simmons, Takapuna
I first met the Team at The Toy Shop 3 years ago when they advised on the sale of my E-Type Jaguar. Earlier this year I imported a 1989 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera from the UK, which had been "back-dated" to resemble the classic pre-1973 911s. The bonnet had been elongated, chrome installed around the headlights and windows, the whale tail removed, Durant side mirrors installed and the rear shaped in the 70s style. All the performance and features of a late 1980s 911 3.2 with the classic slim line look of the early 70s.
The Toy Shop advised me about how to buy the car and took care of all the shipping and importing requirements. When it arrived, while the body, chassis and engine were superb, there were some rust issues in the undercarriage from the salt on the English roads. Toy Shop took control.
They sandblasted, re-welded, rust proofed and painted the undercarriage, replaced the oil pipes, oil cooler and the fuel tank and overhauled the brakes. It wasn't exactly where I wanted to be spending money, but the job that they did was not only absolutely impeccable but very reasonably priced. They kept me informed every step of the way and always welcomed a visit at any time to see how work was progressing. When the work was done they went out of their way to call in a favour to get the LTSA compliance testing completed asap. When the car hit the road about a month ago, it was absolutely superb.
The Team at the Toy Shop genuinely love the cars they work on as much as the owners do, their work is second to none, very reasonably priced and they are very pragmatic about what needs to be done as opposed to what could be done. I am looking forward to a lot of great motoring with The Toy Shop.
I have been using the Toy Shop to service my Porsches for years. What I love about Trevor & the crew is that they make you feel really welcome, especially as a woman. They have a beautiful, clean workshop & toy lounge, where you can relax & wait for your car whilst having a chat to one of their knowledgeable team. I love that they talk to you in plain English & explain everything to you before they commit to doing anything. They also tell you what it's going to cost, so there are no surprises! Best of all, as a car lover myself, they know their cars or 'toys' & you can chat to them about everything to do with European or British Cars. They love your Porsche or Land Rover or VW etc. as much as you do :)
Thoroughly recommend The Toy Shop for servicing and keeping Range Rovers on the road. The service by Trevor and the team is always first-rate and they provide excellent feedback, recommendations and tailor the service requirements to suit the customer. They also keep you informed as the service progresses to ensure no surprises. Very happy with the experiences The Toy Shop has provided.
The Toy Shop has been fantastic in their restoration and customisation of our classic Range Rovers, as well as maintaining our late model Jaguars. Trevor has a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience and has always delivered on time and to the highest standard. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Toy Shop.
We’ve been taking our cars to the toy shop since 2012. One of them is a vintage Maserati which has been tricky since purchased in 1999. Trevor has diagnosed its gremlins, sourced parts and fixed problems that even the Maserati specialists in NZ and Sydney couldn’t. And at a modest, not premium price. I won’t list the issues, there have been a fair few! Our other car is more straightforward - being a late model Range Rover. Servicing is always prompt, and if issues arise, diagnosed and options to fix it presented. Trevor finds solutions. His team are courteous and customer service focused. The courtesy cars, prompt turnaround and complimentary grooming are all appreciated. Thanks, guys!
I thought you may wish to know I am extremely pleased with the Suplex suspension conversion kit you supplied for my MGF. The handling and ride has improved enormously from the original hydragas system which was leaking fluid and nearly at the end of its useful life. Driving is now a pleasure.
Recommended by a friend, the team at The Toy Shop were amazing! So easy booking my Volkswagen Polo in for a check and it was ready for pick up within the day. They even offered me a loan car without my requesting one and I got my car back freshly cleaned which was such a nice surprise. Thanks guys!
Just had a Jag with a few tricky issues cleared up by The Toy Shop, they really went the extra mile to trace the faults down and fix them. Really good to deal with, great service, efficient and really know what they are doing. I'll be taking all my Euro cars there in future, highly recommended.
A well run business with friendly staff, my vehicle is well looked after and serviced on a regular basis. I get a call telling me that it is due and to bring it in. I drive away in a loan car and the day just carries on. Cannot fault Trevor and the team.
Best jag workshop ever
